Rocket Men

Introducing the the Future Library!  A recent set build we did for the Secret Garden Party festival on behalf of Art Director and all round wonder woman, Staci Hindley. The brief was to design and build an interactive space that could house a science fiction library in keeping with this years festival theme. We’ll be uploading more photos of this and some of our other more recent photos soon.

Cladding in Copper

This commission for a custom copper serving bar was a lot of fun to make. We clad 0.7mm of copper sheet around a MDF carcass. We made cut-outs in the copper so that the sink and drip tray would sit flush and minimise the amount of silicon required around each.

Once that was all done we began to patina the copper using a antiquing corrosive. FUN!

Clothes Rails WIP

We were commissioned to design and make three stand-alone clothes rails. Here are a few work in progress shots of how they’re coming along. The units are made from 25mm square section steel with Oak shelving.

Happy Accidents

I came across these beautifully rusted offcuts of old sheet metal when tidying up the workshop recently. It got me thinking about how we could incorporate the many different types of patination for a few of our upcoming projects.

Source Material

We drove out into the countryside to visit our pals at Encore Reclamations storage barn. Buying reclaimed timber without viewing it first can be very hit and miss so we always find it better to choose the boards ourselves. It’s also a great excuse to get out of the city for a bit.

Troubadour

The Troubadour was founded by Michael and Sheila van Bloemen in 1954 as part of the second great London coffee revolution. The first, in the late 17th and throughout the 18th century, saw the foundation of London’ first coffee houses. Thriving centres of metropolitan gossip, commerce and finance these coffee houses are perhaps best remembered for Dr Johnson, who used to frequent them, and for Mr Edward Lloyd, on whose premises the London insurance market was founded.

The latest revolution has seen a number of American chains roll out their “cookie cutter” operations to every London street corner. But after their 19th century decline it was the 1950’s which saw the revival of London coffee houses as centres of culture and civilization. Raffish, continental, revolutionary, these new cafés became centres of rebellion and new music for the young and the young at heart. Earl’s Court, the wild western frontier of bohemian Chelsea, saw a particular concentration of new establishments, the most famous of which was the Troubadour!

Hot Hot Hot desks

Our Forbo and Melamine faced plywood table tops are finally coming together! We’re big fans of the colour choice (Jean) too. Just a little bit of detailing to the edges and then it’s just a case of waiting on the legs to return from being powder coated. We’re really excited about this one. Can’t wait to see it all come together!

Now it’s just a case of trimming them up and then the final finish!

Balans (Westfield Stratford)

Our ongoing collaboration with the lovely people at Balans Soho Society has seen us recently complete their Westfield (Stratford) venue.  Next up! Convent Garden!

Weight Watchers Magazine

More set building courtesy of our friends at Seven productions. We made these black and white painted steps and flats for a recent shoot for weight watchers magazine.

Homeslice

Have you tried Homeslice Pizza yet? If not then you definitely should. Their pizzas are something to behold. We made this walnut table base for their Old Street restaurant and are currently working on some new fixtures for their Neals Yard restaurant. More on that soon.

Embassy East Cafe

If you’re in the mood for one of the best toasties in the capital then head down to see our friends at Embassy East. If their extensive selection of toasties doesn’t take your fancy then sit back and relax with a coffee at one of the tables we recently made for them.

Jack Wills

We were pretty happy with this quick little job we did for the folks down at Jack Wills HQ.
